Your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat is designed to provide a safe but increasing discomfort to any pet that desires to stand on the mat for any length of time. The mat has been designed to allow safe passage across the mat for you and your pet across any doorway. It is the increasing discomfort that provides a consistent reminder for your pet to avoid the area protected by a Paws Off!™ Pet Mat with your pets’s paws that re-focuses their attention away from damaging your doors, screens and windows or approaching or occupying any area you deem off limits. Your mat will be most effective when placed with the vertical protrusions of the tiles orientated perpendicular to the area you wish to be protected as shown throughout this guide.
The engineered discomfort provided by the mat is humane in that it’s easy to walk across but becomes increasingly uncomfortable the longer the animal chooses to remain on the mat, giving your pet the opportunity to simply back away to avoid the discomfort. The mat provides a consistent reminder for all pets to back away from any area they are prone to damage or stage a jump. It’s this “passive deterrent” feature of your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat that over a short time will greatly diminish your pets desire to occupy the protected area or stage another jump over the fence.
Assembling your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat
You will want your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat to extend beyond the edge of the protected area by at least 6” or more to keep the pet from “going around” the edge of the mat. Each tile comes with four clips. It is recommended you assemble a mat in groups of four tiles per the instructions below. Additional tiles and clips can be ordered through the Paws Off!™ website as needed.
- Lay the tiles upside down near the area where they will be used. If the mat will be bigger than four tiles, separate into groups of 4 tiles each.
- Using two clips per side, insert the clips into the holes and push the clips down firmly. clips are designed to fit tightly so don’t worry if you can’t push them all the way.
- Once you get 4 tiles clipped together, walk on the upside down Mat to set the clips firmly.
- Install clips around the edge of one group that will be attaching to the next group. Remember, only two clips per tile side are generally required. Pre-clipping the groups is important since once the groups are flipped right side up, to connect to the adjacent group of tiles, installing the clips from below will be more difficult.
- Flip the groups right side up and ensure the clips that were installed along the edge of the groups do not conflict with clips installed along the edge of the adjacent group.
- Bring the groups together and align with each other.
- Press the edge of one group down on the clips protruding from the other group.
- Walk along the entire surface of the Mat to set all the clips firmly in place.
It has been found that in some cases the pet, over time will learn to treat the protected area with respect and stop inflicting damage at the protect area and you decide to move the mat to a new location which requires a different configuration or you may get a bigger pet that requires a larger Mat. If your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat is not wide enough for the intended area or deep enough for a larger pet simply add more tiles and clips.
Using your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat
The Paws Off!™ Pet Mat can be placed almost anywhere your pet tends to inflict damage on your home or stage a jump over the fence. Use the Mat inside or out. However, because the Mat is designed to allow safe passage for both you and your pets, such as an open doorway, it will not be an effective deterrent to keep your pet from crossing from one area to another such as “keeping your dog in the yard and out of the garden” or “out of the living room” without a barrier that would otherwise prevent access. The Mat is designed to encourage your pet to back away from a protected area for which there is no passage, such as a closed door, a closed window or a closed gate or occupying an area that you want “off limits”.
In addition to using your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat to protect your metal, wood or expensive sliding glass doors, the Mat is effective in a variety of other desirable locations such as gates, areas at the fence prone to jumping, windows, window sills and so on.
The Paws Off!™ Pet Mat has been designed to accommodate almost any area of your home but may not be suitable for doorways where the door must open across the Mat due to the height of the Mat Tiles.
Caring for your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat
Your Paws Off!™ Pet Mat is designed to be maintenance free. In fact, it can easily be cleaned in place due to the unique flow through design that will quickly drain away any moisture and prevent moisture from collecting below.
While the Mat is suitable for any location, CAUTION should be taken if you use a small mat (single row) on a smooth finished surface such as ceramic tile, polished concrete or a smooth wood floor at a doorway as the Paws Off!™ Pet Mat could slip if one propels oneself forcefully from the mat or attempts to stops suddenly on the mat. If this is a concern, call us to discuss your needs and if necessary we can provide you with specially designed traction bars that simply install in the bottom of the tile to eliminate slippage concerns. These optional Traction Bars are available from the Paws Off!™ Pet Mat Company website.
Your product will last almost forever under normal use. The Mat will stand up to all the wear and tear your pet can dish out and is backed by a Limited 5 year Product Guarantee. However, the Paws Off!™ Pet Mat is not designed to carry heavy concentrated loads or heavy impacts such as a meteorite strike - It’s durable, but plastic. Simply move the Paws Off!™ Pet Mat out of the way when moving heavy loads across its location.

Your investment in a Paws Off!™ Pet Deterrent Mat is protected by a Limited 5 Year Product Warranty against anything your pets can dish out and most everything else. Heavy concentrated loads applied to the mat may damage the tiles and is not covered under this warranty. See Terms of Service on our website for details.
