Nature-Inspired Design
Our product was designed with the rules of nature in mind. All animals seek comfort and the path of least resistance. They prefer soft ground over rocky surfaces and choose established trails instead of crossing sticks, logs, steep slopes, or other discomforts. Through trial, error, and evolutionary development, animals learn to avoid thorns, cactus, swamps, scree, and similar hazards—without treats, “positive reinforcement,” or external motivation. Their goal is simply comfort and efficiency.
The Paws Off Pet Mat uses this same natural decision-making process to teach your pet—on its own—to avoid occupying protected areas. The mat requires no shocks, buzzers, sprays, scents, sharp edges, nails, knives, flames, or any “pointy things.” Instead, it provides a safe, passive, humane deterrent based on instinct and comfort-seeking behavior.
How It Works
The mat creates a space that is less comfortable for your pet, encouraging them to choose a softer, more inviting location. If they stand on the mat, the uneven surface continually draws their attention to their paws, encouraging them to back up or move to a more comfortable spot. Moving off the mat is a positive experience, which reinforces the learning process.
Over time—as in nature—your pet will learn to avoid the mat completely. This helps prevent pawing, clawing, chewing valuable items in your home, or attempting to jump fences, whether you’re home or not.
If you ever want to suspend the mat’s deterrent effect, simply place a regular doormat on top of it until you need its full function again.

The mat is built from uniquely designed modular tiles that clip together to fit any size pet and any size area. The veterinarian-approved product design has been carefully engineered to provide safe and humane passage for all your family—even at the busiest of doorways—while providing a consistent reminder for your pets to keep moving or step away.
The tiles and clips are made from 100% recyclable, weatherproof material. Each tile is 1.25 inches tall. The flow-through design allows easy cleaning above and below the mat without lifting or moving it. Placement Note
The Paws Off Pet Mat works well for doors and gates that swing away from the intended location of the mat, such as the exterior door of your home. If your door must swing toward or over the mat, make sure the door has at least 1.25 inches of clearance.
Effectiveness
Most pets make a quick decision to avoid the mat. For about 2% of pets, the deterrent effect may take longer as they need more time to experience and understand the mat. If this happens, double-check that your mat is the correct size and placed in the proper orientation.
